HP Smart Says Printer Offline? Lets Change your Printer Status to Online

Did your printer show offline  or won’t respond to the print commands? Printer offline issues are common and sometimes it is more frustrating when the user is unable to print the documents. If you are getting the printer offline then it means that your printer is unable to communicate with the computer. The reason behind the occurrence of this issue is use of the faulty printer, connectivity issue, loose connection, missing printer drivers or software. Steps to Change the Printer Offline Status to Online 

If the printer is showing offline then it means that there is any problem when your printer is communicating with the computer.

Here are the steps to resolve the printer offline issue:

Method 1: Check the Connectivity 

The first step is to check the connectivity between the printer and computer. 

  • Check the USB cable connecting your printer to computer or laptop. 

  • If you are connected to the network printer then check the network cable which is connecting your HP printer to the wireless router. 

  • Thereafter, check your computer on the same network. You can do the confirmation with the ping command. 

  • In case you are connected to a VPN network then disconnect the printer status. 

  • Restart your printer and computer which resolve the temporary glitch, set the active printer offline even if they are fully operational and connected. 

  • Delete the print jobs by pressing the cancel all documents on your HP printer. It will clear the printing queue and restart your device. 


Method 2: Change the Printer Status to Online 

Here are the steps to change the printer status from offline to online:

  • Firstly, open the control panel and then tap on Devices and Printers.

  • It will display the installed printer list. Locate the printer that you want to change from offline to online. 

  • Right-click on your printer and ensure to set your printer online as default.

  • Right-click on your printer again and this time choose “see what’s printing”.

  • A new window will display on the screen. Tap on the printer. If you see a tick next to the Pause printing and use the printer offline then remove it to change your printer status to online from offline.  


Method 3: Check the Print Port 

Ensure that you have done the printer configuration properly. Use the proper USB port. Here are the steps to do so:

  • Open the control panel and then tap on the Devices and Printers section.

  • After that, locate your printer and right-click on it to select your printer properties. 

  • Go to the Ports tab and ensure that you have selected the proper port. 

  • At last, check whether the printer is working fine or not. 


Method 4: Check the Print Spooler Service Status

The print spooler is a utility or software interface that controls the documents that are printed. The print spooler service should be in the running state to complete the print jobs Here are the steps to check the print spooler service:

  • Press the Windows and R button at the same time to open the Run dialog box. Enter services.msc in the search box. 

  • Window service console will open. Scroll down and find the Print Spooler and see the status is running or not. 

  • If the print spooler service is running then click on restart. In case, the print spooler service is not running then it means the printer is offline.

  • Double-click on the print spooler to open the properties. 

  • Change startup type to automatic and start the service next to the service status. 

  • Tap on the Apply button to check whether the printer is online or not.
